William Cody aka Buffalo Bill was a scout for the US Army who had altercations with Native Americans, including Sioux, Cheyenne, and Comanche warriors. However, he also became an advocate for Native peoples and their rights, including including Lakota in his Wild West shows, such as Sitting Bull. Buffalo Bill paid the Native men and women in his show the same as he did the white cowboys, treated them fairly, kept families together, and was regarded as a warm friend by a great many of the Lakota
