98th ANNUAL CHINCOTEAGUE PONY SWIM - July 26, 2023 Folks from around the world gathered this morning to watch the 98 year tradition of Pony Swim on Chincoteague Island, VA; many there before daybreak. Just after 10am, USCG Station Chincoteague set off the orange flare to advise the Saltwater Cowboys back in the marsh that slack tide had arrived. The Cowboys brought over 200 Chincoteague Ponies through the remaining marsh to swim the Assateague Channel to Chincoteague Island. After resting for ab

The 99th Annual Chincoteague Pony Swim took place on Wednesday, July 24 at 12:49pm with well over 200 ponies (including 89 foals) swimming across the Assateague Channel from Assateague Island, VA to Chincoteague Island. After they arrived on Chincoteague, the ponies rested in the marsh on Pony Swim Lane for about one hour before the Saltwater Cowboys led them through the streets to the carnival ground corral.
