The MacCaskill Tartan is a beautifully balanced design that features deep greens and rich navy blues, symbolizing the Highland landscapes and the clan’s maritime heritage. Yellow and red accents run throughout the tartan, with the yellow representing wisdom and the red signifying the clan's bravery and bloodline.

What does the name Macaskill mean? The Macaskill family history stretches back to the clans of the Dalriadan kingdom on the sea-swept Hebrides islands and mountainous western coast of Scotland. The name Macaskill is derived from an ancient Norse warrior name Askell, which means cauldron of the Gods and denoted son of Asgaill.

Subsequent authors of Clan and Tartan books have done their ’research’ in Adams’ book and so the error has been perpetuated, misleading many who are first beginning to seek their roots. Among the families sent from Bernerey to Cape Breton was six-year-old Angus MacAskill, his parents and siblings.
