2023年12月21日 · Leafing through the history of Brighton uncovers some fantastic nostalgia. The Brighton seafront. If there is one focal point of the area’s history, then it, of course, has to be the seafront. It’s what most people think of at the mention of Brighton, with its long beach and piers packed with entertainment.

Birghton’s seaside crowds were filmed two years after the Second World War ended. Already modern blocks of flats face the seafront, although the Grand Hotel, Regency Pavilion and Aquarium are seen too.

A real treat - a ride in a goat cart on the seafront. Goat cart on the promenade by the ‘Palace Pier’. This would have been on or before 1938.

Sometime before 1878, William Tickner senior entered into a business partnership with James Measor (born c1830, Brighton) and set up a boat-building business on Brighton's seafront. The 1878 edition of Kelly's Post Office Directory of Sussex records Tickner & Measor as a boat building firm located on The Beach, King's Road, Brighton .
