Check out the Battle of Valverde, which preceded Glorieta. It's the largest single battle ever fought in this state, and the western-most battle fought in the Civil War. And honestly there's not much mention or memorial at the exact spot where the battle happened, and I'm not sure why.

2023年1月2日 · It was fought at Glorieta Pass in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in what is now New Mexico, and was an important event in the history of the New Mexico Territory in the American Civil War. There was a skirmish on March 26 between advance elements from each army, with the main battle occurring on March 28.

The battle was a pivotal moment in the Confederate efforts to secure and control their access to the western territories, especially California, where there was active gold mining. Glorieta Pass is the southernmost mountain pass across the Rocky Mountains I think so controlling it gives some strategic advantage.
