Young teens are seen taking many different drugs in different forms including snorting crushed pills, inhaling keyboard dusters, smoking marijuana, dropping acid (LSD), and drinking a promethazine and codeine type drink, as well as drinking beer and hard alcohol.

Though it received numerous favorable reviews from critics, Thirteen generated some controversy for its depiction of youth drug use (including inhalants, marijuana, LSD and alcohol), underage sexual behavior, and self-harm. [3]

The final scene, set against the backdrop of a dark and foreboding street, presents the audience with a haunting image: Tracy and Evie walking away, seemingly lost in a haze of drugs and rebellion. The ending suggests that Tracy’s journey towards self-destruction may continue, despite her mother’s efforts to intervene.
