I acquired the Palermo instant-read thermometer from a great deal posted by FLBuckeye for $3.99 on Amazon. Normally this retails at about $20. Normally this retails at about $20. I do not own a Thermapen, and at $4 this was very much a worthy trial of something in a similar vein.

I just saw the email and looked at this new thermometer. It's much more accurate than the Thermopop, and +/- 0.9F compared to +/- 2.0F for the Thermopop. Not quite so large a display though. The Thermapen reads 1-2 seconds faster, and is +/- 0.7F accurate, but as you point out, costs twice as much.

Thermapens are great (I have a couple of the older models) but I also have a few Lavatools Javelins and a Javelin Pro and I think they are just as good. The Lavatools Javelin sells for a few bucks less than a Thermopop. Anyone thinking about getting a Thermopop or Thermapen should take a look at the Lavatools thermos.

I usually rely on my leave-in thermometer probes, and when I had to use an instant-read I would use my el-cheapo which took about 10 seconds to pick a temp. I
