Tapered drill for candles - FineWoodworking
2004年11月4日 · One caveat to the spade it suggestion. I ground down a spade bit several years ago to make tapered holes for Windsor chair legs. The bit worked fine, but had a nasty habit of grabbing the wood and spinning it around. If you try this method, be sure to use a drill press and securely clamp down your work piece.
Tapered vs. Straight Drill Bits - FineWoodworking
2006年6月16日 · I have a handy dandy Wood Screw Pilot Hole Size chart that tells me for a #8 wood screw pilot hole I should use a 11/64 tapered bit or a 1/8 straight bit for hard wood and 5/32 tapered bit or a 7/64 straight bit for soft wood. <!—-><!—-> <!—-> I don’t understand the purpose of a tapered bit.
Dang Drill Press Chuck keeps falling off - FineWoodworking
2002年6月21日 · You can get taper shanks with threads in the skinny end and use a drawbar to keep the chuck in the drill, but that would probably require modifying the drill press. If the socket feels smooth and your cleaned up shank still won't hold, you could try a new shank. You could get an Albrecht keyless chuck with integral shank for about $250.
Large forstner bit issues - FineWoodworking
2020年7月5日 · Once the bit has stalled, it needs an even greater amount of initial energy to start up again if still in the cut. And, as you've found, the energy is likely to be transferred somewhere else where it can release so your drill bit slips in the chuck or the chuck slips in the morse taper or the drive belt slips over the pulleys.

2019年11月7日 · I have drilled 10 inch long pieces by ripping the work in half on the bandsaw. Then routing a groove in the center of both pieces using a core box bit. Glue them back together, then drill thru with a long electricians drill bit in a hand held drill. The bit will follow the groove and leave a round, larger hole. A course bandsaw blade worked best.
Delta Drill Press Chuck Installation - FineWoodworking
2008年8月11日 · I recently received a Delta 12 inch table top drill press and got it all assembled except for the final step, pressing on the drill bit chuck. Instructions called for rubber hammer. I tried that; got no where. Then graduated to a regular claw hammer buffered by …

Enter Fisch’s square taper shank augers designed for two-jaw braces, offered as part of a partnership with Tools for Working Wood. These bits come sharp and ready to use in sizes from 1⁄4 in. up to 1 in.
Fix a Loose Drill-Press Chuck - FineWoodworking
2011年12月8日 · First check to see if there are any burrs on the arbor shaft or in the socket. Even a tiny burr can thwart the locking action of the taper. To check, lightly spin the arbor in the socket. A burr in the socket leaves a shiny line on the shaft, and one on the shaft leaves a …
drill press chuck friction fit? - FineWoodworking
2004年10月22日 · I have just bought my first drill press. (home shop use) I’m surprised to find that the chuck attaches to the spindle by friction only in a slightly tapered mortise – tenon arrangment. As hard as I jam it in there, it keeps slipping and falling out as I finish a through – hole. (1/2″pilot point bit through 1″ hardwood).
