The counties of Sweden (Swedish: Sveriges län) are the first-level administrative subdivisions of Sweden. There are twenty-one counties; however, the number of counties has varied over time, due to territorial changes and to divisions and/or mergers of existing existing counties.

The concept was created in 1634 on the initiative of Count Axel Oxenstierna. Each county has an own governor. Some people want to see the counties being replaced with regions.

Sweden consists of 21 counties. The counties, many of which were established before the provincial organization law, which was formed in 1810, have undergone a number of changes. In 1968, the city of Stockholm was included in Stockholm.
