2004年1月7日 · I bought a new serpentine belt, 46.5" long, and installed it on my 9" 405Y workshop model. I was dismantling the lathe for cleanup and inspection anyway. The spindle shaft and the back-gear shaft came out easily. I figure that the belt will not need to be replaced in my lifetime. You can purchase Dayco serpentine belts from ryderfleetproducts.com.

I can see the the countershaft turning. promacjoe I had the same lathe a while back, with a serpentine belt upgrade. My belt was only 50.5 inches long. If your motor pulley is 30 inches away from the spindle, your belt must be about 70 inches long.

They work far better than leather belts, transmit much more power, don't stretch, and don't need to be as tight. You can ask a local garage to save you a used one and get it for free.

2014年2月17日 · After the glue has cured, you can turn the belt over and sand off any raised bump you might have. On the 9A the belt is about 7/8" wide and the joint is very flexible. The joint makes no noise as it travels. The Gates belt on the Heavy 10 is about 1 1/8" wide and is a much heavier duty belt. As a result, the joint is stiffer than on the 9A.
