2023年9月18日 · Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) arise from the neoplastic transformation of mesenchymal cells and comprise around 15 percent of all skin and subcutaneous tumours in dogs (Theilen and Madewell, 1979). They can arise in muscle, adipose, neurovascular, fascial and fibrous tissues but most commonly involve the skin and subcutis.

Soft tissue sarcomas are tumors of connective tissues. Different soft tissue sarcomas are grouped together within this larger category because they have similar appearances on biopsy and similar clinical behavior in the patient. Subtypes include fibrosarcoma, hemangiopericytoma, liposarcoma, myxosarcoma, and undifferentiated sarcoma, among others.

The most commonly recommended treatment for soft tissue sarcomas is surgical excision with wide margins. These tumors often have “tentacles” extending beyond the tumor, and these must also be removed.

Soft tissue sarcomas represent a diverse group of tumors that are grouped together on the basis of similar pathologic appearance and clinical behavior. Soft tissue sarcoma subtypes include: fibrosarcoma, myxosarcoma, liposarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, and undifferentiated sarcoma.
