Simvastatin (Zocor) is a, FDA approved prescription medication that is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as " statins."

Simvastatin Tablets are used to lower levels of total cholesterol, “bad” cholesterol (LDL cholesterol), and fatty substances called triglycerides in the blood. In addition, Simvastatin Tablets raises levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL cholesterol). Cholesterol is one of several fatty substances found in the bloodstream.

The dosage of simvastatin (once daily in the evening) was 10 mg for the first 8 weeks, 20 mg for the second 8 weeks, and 40 mg thereafter. In a 24-week extension, 144 patients elected to continue therapy and received simvastatin 40 mg or placebo.
