He didn't want any other power monger to get hold of his other Mangekyo Sharingan and thus entrusted it to Itachi, because he knew he believed in the same ideals.

He’s the youngest Uchiha to ever awaken the Mangekyo and his Susano’o is crazy powerful too and can fire absurd amounts of chakra needles and the lance is great for piercing with med distance lunge based attacks and drilling through most defenses.

Itachi was fully aware of the genjutsu and it completely removed any control Kabuto had over itachi despite Kabuto's reanimation seal.

So he himself wouldn't know about the recharge period. He used Kotoamatsukami just after Shisui died and he knew the period was 10 years because it activated after 10 years in the war. This is dumb. The only thing that we learned from the manga was that, Shisui gave one of his eyes to Itachi because Danzo had the other eye already.
