With their flamboyant color and amusing behaviors, flamingos have been on hand to welcome Zoo guests since 1932, about 10 years after the Zoo grounds opened to visitors. They are our unofficial ambassadors!

The Safari Park is home to the largest population of greater flamingos in North America. We have three of the six flamingo species represented here. Add some color to your day by admiring our flocks! The American flamingo is the "brightest" of all flamingos, showing its true colors of red, pink, or orange on its legs, bill, and face.

There are six species of flamingos: Greater, Chilean, lesser, Andean, puna or James's; and American or Caribbean. Their color comes from the foods they eat, like algae and small crustaceans (including crabs, shrimp, crayfish, prawns, barnacles, and more).

2018年8月7日 · The San Diego Zoo’s unofficial greeters at the Flamingo Lagoon have added 13 new, fluffy chicks to their vibrant flock—and all but one are being raised by “foster parents.” The 12 new foster chicks are greater flamingos, which are closely related to the American flamingos residing at the Zoo’s Front Street habitat.
