The Hound is loyal, and Salem is clear that she wants Ruby alive. But also, the Hound is her mom. Either when Ruby tries to kill it, or when Neo/Cinder tries to kill Ruby, that's when we'll find out. The Hound is Summer, and now Ruby has to come back from that, and from watching it likely kill Penny right in front of her.
