Mohammad Khatami [a] (born 14 October 1943) is an Iranian reformist politician who served as the fifth president of Iran from 3 August 1997 to 3 August 2005. He also served as Iran's Minister of Culture from 1982 to 1992.

Mohammad Khatami (born September 29, 1943, Ardakān, Iran) is an Iranian political leader and cleric, who as president of Iran (1997–2005) emboldened reformists who sought to moderate the country’s policies on social issues and foreign affairs.

Mohammad Khatami was president of Iran from 1997 to 2005. As a young man, he studied Islam under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini (1902–1989, who would become leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran), and in the late 1970s joined the clerical party that supported Khomeini's ideas about Islamic government.

Mohammad Khatami's tenure as the fifth president of Iran began with his inauguration on 3 August 1997 to 3 August 2005.
