When the Legislative Assembly is in session, an MLA's job is to represent the communities that elected them and collaborate with other MLAs to govern the province.

Members are elected from provincial ridings and are referred to as members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the lieutenant governor in the name of the King of Canada .

Basic compensation for a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is established under the Members’ Remuneration and Pensions Act. Since April 1, 2024, the annual basic compensation each Member receives is $119,532.72.
