Gyeongbokgung (Korean: 경복궁; Hanja: 景福宮; lit. Radiant Prosperity Palace), also known as Gyeongbok Palace or Gyeongbokgung Palace, was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. Built in 1395, it is located in northern Seoul, South Korea.

1. Gyeongbokgung Palace | 경복궁. Gyeongbokgung is the big kahuna of all the palaces in Seoul. Originally built in 1395, its creation marked the official change to Seoul as Korea’s capital. The name means “Palace Greatly Blessed by Heaven” because of its fortuitous placement between Bugaksan and Namsan.

Constructed in 1456, the Hyangwonji Pond belongs to the rear garden of the Gyeongbokgung Palace. It can be also found in an ancient Korean chronicle. According to the record, the pond was built along with the Chuirojeong Pavilion, and lotus flowers were planted in it.
