The word ergonomics —“the science of work” — is derived from the Greek ergon (work) and nomos (laws). The terms ergonomics and human factors are often used interchangeably or as a unit (e.g., human factors / ergonomics – HFE or EHF) a practice that is adopted by the IEA.

The theme of the 22nd Triennial Congress of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA2024) is Better Life Ergonomics for Future Humans. The 2024 Congress will explore how emerging technologies can enhance the quality of human life, both at work and during leisure activities.

The mission of the IEA is to elaborate and advance Human Factors / Ergonomics (HFE) science and practice, and to expand its scope of application and contribution to society to improve quality of life.
