Defying all natural laws of science, Hedorah evolved from a fish-like tadpole to a four legged monster in but a few days. Taking full advantage of this new powerful form, the smog monster waded onto the land to further its size and strength.

Hedorah was one of the many kaiju controlled by the Xilien. As its alien masters made a bid for conquest, the smog monster was held back. The sentient sludge was not deployed during the other kaijus' worldwide assault, nor did he join the Xilien ships in their combined attack on Earth.

Character Analysis: 1.0 Date: 10/27/04 Yoshimitsu Banno's 1971 Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, conveys a strong anti-pollution message, and in order to properly express the problem Banno had to create not only a monster who embodied the idea of pollution itself, but one who greatly overpowered Godzilla to show the severity of the problem.

The movie was submitted with an English and Romaji hybrid title Godzilla tai Hedorah, and the international title, Godzilla vs. Hedorah. Godzilla vs. Hedorah II, a sequel to the 1971 movie, was at one time considered. It would have featured a rematch between both Godzilla and Hedorah, and was to be the 1975 Godzilla film.

In a much later interview, Yoshimitsu Banno was quoted as saying the "only idea I had in that regard was that Hedorah appears in Africa". Hedorah rose out of the water and walked onto the shore. A flash of lightning showed several monsters staring at Hedorah. Another flash and they were gone. No one wanted to fight the new King of the Monsters and suffer a painful death as a result. The dominant destroyer gurgled a sickening laugh as she went back to the sea to finish the job.

But before Hedorah fired a blast that would’ve given Kong’s face third-degree burns, Zilla jumped on them from behind. Hedorah tried shaking the mutated iguana off, but he persevered. Treating his claw like a spear, Zilla shoved it into one of Hedorah’s eyes. The end result was quite messy. Black blood sprayed out of the wounded eye.

This gave fans both their first real look at the two "Millennium" characters battling, as infamously Hedorah's role was very short in the 2004 movie, and as a way to celebrate Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971), which was having its 50th anniversary. The five minute short film was released online on November 3rd, 2021.

Hedorah chased after her, surfacing and morphing to his final form. Mothra didn't need her sight to locate the awful stench Hedorah gave off. She wheeled slowly in the air, her antennae crackling as lightning splintered the ground and tore through Hedorah's flesh. The angry deity took note of the Smog Monster's anguished wails.
