Codagh, who is Melgren’s black dragon, is the strongest of the black dragons, followed by Tairn, Violet’s dragon. Black dragons are descended from the Dubhmadinn line.

Tairneanach, most commonly known as Tairn, is the bonded dragon of Violet Sorrengail and mate of Sgaeyl. He is currently the second largest dragon in active service and the only other black dragon aside from Codagh.

Codagh is the dragon who executed the leaders of the Tyrrish Rebellion six years before the events of Fourth Wing in Calldyr, as all children of the rebellion leaders are immune to the signet of his rider.
