Federal Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduates based on financial need and cost of attendance.

How much money could I get from a Federal Pell Grant? Every year, the federal government updates the maximum Federal Pell Grant award amount. For the 2024–25 award year, the maximum Pell Grant award is $7,395. (Note: The maximum Pell Grant award amount for the 2025–26 award year will be announced in early 2025.

Service Grant • For students whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. armed forces and died as a result of performing military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after the events of 9/11 • Must be ineligible for a Pell Grant due to having less financial need than is required to receive Federal Pell Grant funds

The Supreme Court blocked the pandemic-related student loan debt relief (you may also know this as the forgiveness of up to $20,000 for Federal Pell Grant borrowers recipients). But you may be able to get help repaying your loans, including full loan forgiveness, through one of the federal student loan programs.

In most cases, your school must give you your grant or loan money at least once per term (semester, trimester, or quarter). Schools that don’t use traditional terms such as semesters or quarters usually must give you your grant or loan money at least twice—for instance, at the beginning and midpoint of your academic year or program.
