Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of Italy's most famous and extensive ski resorts. The town staged the Winter Olympics in the 1950s and is a popular stop on the World Cup skiing circuit for the women's speed disciplines.

Getting to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Despite being one of the oldest and most famous of the Dolomites ski resorts, Cortina d'Ampezzo doesn't have the best travel connections (which is possibly why the other resorts feature more heavily in ski package holiday brochures).

Skiing the Tofana Area. The Col Drusciè cable car takes skiers out of Cortina town centre and up onto the ridge. Those looking for a quick early 'burn' will take the second part of the cable car up to the Ra Valles area and the high runs and good snow in this mini-area under the Tofana peak.

Skiing Falzarego. The Falzarego Pass is a fair way from Cortina (just under 20km) and the road is a narrow and winding one all the way to the top. Most visitors will take advantage of the local ski bus from Cortina.

Cortina Ski Schools and Ski Hire Ski Schools. Cortina has a good range of options for ski instruction, from the larger more 'traditional' ski schools to smaller operations which specialise in individual instruction or children's classes.
