What was mass/being a Catholic like in the 1950's? : r/Catholicism
The Traditional Latin Mass as typically experienced today (and described in other comments here) is nothing like the Mass in the 1950s. Oh, it was the same Missal, or nearly so, but whereas today TLM priests and parishioners relish the beauty of what was lost, back then, it was seen as pedestrian. Something to get through.

2023年12月31日 · I was baptized at Easter vigil and it took over 3 hours because they said it in 3 different languages. Would've been completely avoided if the whole thing was done in Latin. Same with going to Mass in other countries, Latin makes the Mass universally understood (with the help of a missal) no matter who is attending.

Not aware of "small town", but I grew up in a major city in the Northeast USA in the 1950's and 1960's. Mass was full of Gregorian chant, even the Low Mass. Many families attended local Catholic schools. Everyone took Latin in high school and college. In my Catholic girls academy, I belonged to a singing group called Schola.

Or you can get a big copy which does include the different prayers for over $50. But I have an app called iPieta which has a day to day mass for the Latin mass.
