The Battle of Fort Henry was fought on February 6, 1862, in Stewart County, Tennessee, during the American Civil War. It was the first important victory for the Union and Brig. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant in the Western Theater .

On February 2, 1862, Brig. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Flag Officer Andrew Foote moved a force of 15,000 soldiers, four ironclads, and three timberclad ships toward Fort Henry. Some 3,000 Confederates commanded by Brig. Gen. Lloyd Tilghman manned the defenses of Fort Henry.
