2005年11月24日 · Vigan, earlier known as " Ciudad Fernandina" from 1758 to late 19th century, is the oldest surviving Spanish colonial city in the country. It has auspiciously escaped the bombs of World War II unlike its sister cities, Manila and Cebu.

The Libro De Casamientos (Book of Marriage), Libro De Entierros (Book of Death) and Libro de Bautismos (Baptismal Book) of 1758 up to 1937, refer to Vigan as Ciudad Fernandina de Vigan or de esta ciudad.
