Bal Gangadhar Tilak (pronunciation ⓘ; born Keshav Gangadhar Tilak [3] [4] (pronunciation: [keʃəʋ ɡəŋɡaːd̪ʱəɾ ʈiɭək]); 23 July 1856 – 1 August 1920), endeared as Lokmanya (IAST: Lokamānya), was an Indian nationalist, teacher, and an independence activist.

Tilak, who defined 'Hindu' as one who recognizes authority of Vedas, blamed Shahu asking rights for Vedic rites. Tilak supported the Purohit, Rajopadhye, and threatened to seek redress from sovereign British power, and also threatened of caste riots.

2022年1月1日 · Started off his journey as a journalist, Tilak started two weeklies, namely, Kesari and Mahratta, in 1880s in order to disseminate ideas of nationalism. Tilak was also instrumental in the establishment of Deccan Education Society in 1884 along with leaders like GG Agarkar, Namjoshi, and VS Apte.
