Hevea brasiliensis is the scientific name of a natural rubber tree. It is a perennial agricultural commodity that has a significant role in the economy of developing countries such as the Philippines. Over 20 million families around the world are dependent on rubber cultivation for their basic source of income.

During their visit, three rubber trees were evaluated in Basilan while nine rubber trees were shortlisted in Zamboanga Sibugay for their girth size and age. Girth measurements were taken one meter above ground level, and plantation histories were considered in the evaluation process.

Rubber tree seedlings was introduced in the Philippines by the Menzi Agricultural Corporation in 1905 in Basilan. Almost at the same time as Indonesia & Malaysia started their rubber industry.
