2011年4月28日 · Gaul (Latin Gallia, French Gaule) is the name given by the Romans to the territories where the Celtic Gauls (Latin Galli, French Gaulois) lived, including present France, Belgium, Luxemburg and parts of the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany on the west bank of the Rhine, and the Po Valley, in present Italy.

The map covers Gallia during the ancient Roman times and covers from the English Channel south as far as the Pyrenees Mountains and Hispania. It includes the modern day nations of France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands. It identifies several important cities and towns and uses ancient names throughout.

The maps are highly decorative, with elaborate title cartouches surrounded by coats of arms, putti, or allegorical figures. The two world maps feature the island of California, a partially explored Australia, and numerous notations of parts as yet undiscovered.
