Ethiopian-inspired music has hit the big time in Israel. The musical traditions the world over are heard in the fusion that is today popular Israeli music. Now for the first time, Ethiopian music has gone mainstream in a unique and eclectic new album that showcases Israel’s ethnic diversity.

The CD is called Temesgen, which means “Thanks to God” and is subtitled “Worship Songs from Ethiopia’s Beta Avraham Jewish Community”. The songs on this CD come primarily from the Secret Synagogues, passed down from generation to generation with a sprinkling of original songs by Demeke.

Olivier Tourny published in 2010 with Peeters Editions a remarkable book on The Ethiopian Jewish liturgical singing. Musical analysis of an oral tradition , in which he describes in a pedagogical way the amazing musical tradition of Ethiopian Jews.
