Atmosphere of Earth - Wikipedia
The atmosphere of Earth is composed of a layer of gas mixture that surrounds the Earth's planetary surface (both lands and oceans), known collectively as air, with variable quantities of suspended aerosols and particulates (which create weather features such as clouds and hazes), all retained by Earth's gravity.
Composition and Structure of the Atmosphere
Earth’s atmosphere is divided into four distinct layers based on thermal characteristics (temperature changes), chemical composition, movement, and density (Figure 6.1). The troposphere is the lowest layer extending from the surface up to roughly 18 km above the surface depending on location (varies from as low as 6 km to as high as 20 km).
3.1: Structure and Composition of the Atmosphere
2023年1月21日 · The atmosphere acts as a compressible fluid tied to the earth by gravitation; as a receptor of solar energy and a thermal reservoir, it constitutes the working fluid of a heat engine that transports and redistributes matter and energy over the entire globe.
Earth’s Atmosphere Composition: Nitrogen, Oxygen, Argon …
From largest to smallest, Earth’s atmosphere composition contains nitrogen, oxygen, argon, CO 2, and trace gases. Because water vapor is highly variable geographically, it’s excluded from this total.
7.1: Atmospheric Composition - Geosciences LibreTexts
2025年1月28日 · The most abundant of the trace gases in the global atmosphere is carbon dioxide (~400 parts per million, or 400 x 10-6), but there are thousands of trace gases with fractions much less than a few parts per million. These trace gases and particles are as important to atmospheric structure and weather as are nitrogen, oxygen, and water vapor and ...
Composition & Structure of the Atmosphere [NCERT UPSC …
Questions can sometimes be asked in UPSC prelims regarding the composition of the earth’s atmosphere. Hence, IAS Exam aspirants should know the relevant facts about the atmosphere’s composition. The atmosphere is described as the air that surrounds the earth.

2024年7月2日 · In short, the atmosphere is the protective bubble in which we live. This protective bubble consists of several gases (listed in the table below), with the top four making up 99.998% of all gases. Of the dry composition of the atmosphere, nitrogen by far is the most common.
Atmosphere - Definition, Layers of Atmosphere, Composition of ...
An atmosphere is a blanket of gases that surrounds Earth. It is held near the surface of the planet by Earth’s gravitational attraction. Argon, oxygen and nitrogen from the three main constituents of the atmosphere.
Atmosphere | Definition, Layers, & Facts | Britannica
2025年1月6日 · The current molecular composition of Earth’s atmosphere is diatomic nitrogen (N 2), 78.08 percent; diatomic oxygen (O 2), 20.95 percent; argon (A), 0.93 percent; water (H 2 0), about 0 to 4 percent; and carbon dioxide (CO 2), 0.04 percent.
Composition of the atmosphere - BBC Bitesize
The atmosphere is a mixture of gases. The atmosphere is mostly nitrogen (approximately 80%) and oxygen (approximately 20%).
