A couple of additional thoughts I have if your new joists are LVL beams or wood i-joists. I would probalby place them in between the existing 2x6's. It would be difficult to find a joist hanger that would fit a double joist comprised of a 1 3/4" LVL or i-joist and 1 1/5" 2x6.

2008年8月26日 · Okay, now the argument I’m facing is the chief says end nailing the ceiling joist through the first board of a header over a new door opening (between old nuilding and new addition) is the way to do it. After end nailing, add 1/2″ plywood and the other board of the header, than add the joist hanger and nail to the header.

Boxes for ceiling lights are most often 4-in. octagonal or round boxes or recessed light fixtures with integrated junction boxes. Setting ceiling boxes in new work is similar to setting wall boxes, with the added concern that the ceiling box be strong enough to support the fixture. Many electricians prefer to use metal boxes for ceiling fixtures.

If it was longer I would have added some kind of bracing in the middle too or alternated side with the hangers if possible without doing more ceiling damage. Conventional framing you can use ladder framing and outlooks for support on end eves, but on open beam rafters or i joist framing ive always done the inverted hanger

2004年3月1日 · Since an old ceiling is mentioned, then the joists were likely set from above. The hangers could have been pre-attached to the joists, with a short 1x2 screwed to the top extending beyond the end of the joist. The 1x2 would bear on top of the header and would support the joist until the hanger could be nailed into place.
