2019年12月7日 · Just completed my first build of a portable GMRS band repeater (UHF 462/467 MHZ simple license band). GMRS radios are cheap and affordable in many retail electronic stores. They operate on FCC allocated UHF frequencies between 460-470 MHZ. Different from ham the license to operate is merely pay to purchace and no test required.

2009年9月15日 · I've built a few copper j-poles over the years. All worked well. Had the most fun putting together the 6m one! I've currently got a 2m/70cm dual-band model in the attic as a backup antenna. The antenna can be mounted to any kind of mast since the bottom portion (part sticking down from the "U") is at ground potential anyway.

2024年12月31日 · I have a friend who lives in the middle of three GMRS repeaters ranging from about 12 to 20 miles away. Using an HT, he can't access any of the repeaters from his home, but his radios work fine in other areas. He is exploring options for a basic base antenna and coax. Ed Fong and J-pole antennas are possibilities with maybe a 20 foot mast.
