2017年6月26日 · As Leo said, a dense, tight grained wood is great for CNC work. Hard maple is a great light colored wood, and using a glazing finishing technique really helps the carving to stand out. Bloodwood is an excellent darker colored wood. Basswood is a good choice if you also want to do hand carving to enhance the detail.

2006年8月31日 · I have been playing with the demo, (carved the puppy sample about ten times).Was wondering what the best type of wood for carving in is. I've tried oak without very good results.hard maple works fair,but the material I have is'nt the best.I've got one pic carved good and the others don't show up real good. I thank it might be the grain.

2014年2月25日 · V-carving is very sensitive to the quality of the bit, the true angle of the cutter, the accuracy of the Z=surface setting, and the stiffness of the machine. Rounded corners sounds like a cutting problems, not a design issue.

2020年5月9日 · Pine is out, in my opinion. Probably cedar and other softwoods, too. I had thought Maple would work well, and it has a few times, but I've had problems with contrast in dark and light. I put sealer and stain on it, which helped some, but I concluded that there surely must be a wood that is naturally more suited for photovcarving.

2014年11月27日 · When sorting out what woods were best for carving I used the same vector art model, same size, same bit & machine settings to ensure I had the best possible comparison. Was trying to get the best possible results using the same picture but in light of what you have said maybe need to try a different picture.

2016年6月5日 · Cutting. Depth of .03 for dark pictures and .035 for lighter pictures. Spacing I go 4 to 8 percent, but 4 does look better. Do 60 degree crosshatch and go both ways for best results. 2015年9月30日 · You want to use hard wood like maple, walnut, bloodwood etc. The size of the model also makes a big difference in the bit you use. You can use a 1/4" ball nose for large size models or 1/8" ball nose for most will work but I have used 1/16" ball nose for small size models or if I need a lot of detail.

2012年5月17日 · Unless you're carving really small stuff, you should probably use a 120* V bit & if the stroke is over 2" wide, a 140* is not out of the question. 60s & 90s don't reflect the light as well & are more difficult to paint.
