Kashmir (/ ˈkæʃmɪər / KASH-meer or / kæʃˈmɪər / kash-MEER) is the northernmost geographical region of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-19th century, the term "Kashmir" denoted only the Kashmir Valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal Range.
