Harry Pidgeon left Los Angeles in the Islander on November 18, 1921. His voyage lasted for nearly four years. PIDGEON’S 34- FEET YAWL, the Islander, was built by himself at a cost of about £250 for materials. Her trials were made off Catalina Island, near Los Angeles, where this photograph was taken.
