First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple is a congregation with a glorious past, a vibrant present and a promising future. It is the oldest church in Chicago! It was founded by Methodist circuit riders in 1831, six years before the City of Chicago was incorporated.

The Chicago Temple, the dramatic building that houses the First United Methodist Church of Chicago, the First United Methodist Church parsonage, the Chapel in the Sky, and a host of private offices and commercial enterprises, is 100 years old this year.

TEMPLE STRINGS. The Temple Strings are led by violinist David Myford, and sustained by amateurs of various age and skill level. They provide excellent music for worship in a variety of ways throughout the year: as soloists, as an ensemble, and as a chamber ensemble supporting a soloist or the choir.
