Scraping and picking at the gel coat can result in scratching the mold. Now you can start over from the beginning knowing it will work. Or, after getting the gel coat cured with resin you can make the part.

What can I try to get the gelcoat to cure? Allow more time. If something wasn’t exactly right, the gelcoat may just take a few days to harden.

2009年4月20日 · Using Acetone, wipe away all the uncured or sticky gel. Get it all off. Properly cured gel will remain in place. Roughen the surface again. Make sure you mix the paste well before adding the catalyst as the wax (if present) can segregate from the gel while sitting in the jar (maybe). Mix with the proper amount of hardner and apply.

2022年10月10日 · Uncured gel should never contact skin, if it does, wipe or scrape it off asap. If that cured top layer gets a chip or hole in it, the uncured gel layer can leak out, and uncured gel is sticky, so it'll get on whatever you touch also.

2007年6月27日 · Spraying more gelcoat over uncured gelcoat will not help the first layer cure. MEKP does not diffuse very well in the resin; the resin is too viscous for it to mix freely. Hence why it takes so long to mix the stuff in the pot, and why you have to keep mixing for a couple of minutes after you think it's as good as it'll get.

2017年11月30日 · Remove all of the uncured material and repair with chopped fiber and resin as already recommended. I find that cutting fiberglass mat into narrow strips with scissors, then cutting it into short lengths makes nice chopped fiber.

2012年10月18日 · When added to gel-coat, Micro-balloons will make the cured resin lighter (less dense). Milled glass will make the cured resin stronger. Fumed silica will make the uncured resin thicker so it can be spread on. Styrene will make the uncured resin thinner and easier to spray.
