A PR knot is a 100% connection and the tool works fine but I have since gone to using all loop to loop connections for both my trolling and casting rigs. Just a lot easier to deal with on a moving boat than trying to tie a PR knot.

tried the PR knot for the first time at work the other day. 50lb PP slick 8, 80lb mono and it broke at 54#. I am happy with the way it came out, and hope to kill a few tuna with it this year. what other knots should i try?

Added to my tackle today - Penn Battle-PR knot I picked up 2 Penn Battle 7000's today from East Coast Sports (prices better than online) and had them filled with 65# braid and a 100# leader. Chris filled and tied the leaders on using a PR knot which I had never heard of.

I then use the PR bobbin to tie the PR knot onto the mono with the 2 foot tag end, It gives you the best of both worlds and saves you the hassel of having to serve and glue the connection point.

FG is the best in my opinion but there is a learning curve and takes a bit of time. I have a method that is very doable on boat. So if the knot will be in top 20-30' I would use FG all the way. But if 100' or so into the spool FG is still my choice but if water is rough=, I would just do UNI to UNI and not worry 1 bit about it.

However, this much I will guarantee you. Use whatever knot you can tie CORRECTLY when you are in a bouncing boat and a flurry of feeding fish. The "best" knot in the world won't be the best if you can't tie it correctly when under pressure. I would much rather tie a knot I can do right all the time than use the "best" knot that I don't get right.

When you pull the knot tight the braid really needs to 'bite' into the mono, especially with larger line class' if you watch the knot closely when tightening the braid will go slightly lighter in colour, thats how tight you need to pull it with. In Larger line classes ( PE 3+) we use knot pullers to get the amount tension needed.
