Locate the strut top mounting. Loosen and remove the bolts securing the top mounting kit to the strut tower. Be careful; removing these bolts can allow the strut assembly to fall. A MacPherson strut uses a wishbone, or a substantial compression link stabilized by a secondary link, which provides a mounting point for the hub carrier or axle of the wheel. The lower arm system provides both lateral and longitudinal location of the wheel.

Unscrew the three nuts above the mounting to release the top of the strut. Do not loosen the central nut between them, which would release the coil spring from the strut. Remove the two bolts underneath the track control arm, which fix the strut to the arm.
