Congress Poland [a] or Congress Kingdom of Poland, [3] formally known as the Kingdom of Poland, [b] was a polity created in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna as a semi-autonomous Polish state, a successor to Napoleon's Duchy of Warsaw.

Congress Poland ("Russian Poland") was divided into departments, a relic from the times of the French-dominated Duchy of Warsaw. In 1816 the administrative divisions were changed to forms that were more traditionally Polish: voivodeships , obwóds and powiats .

Although allied with the Russian Empire, Congress Poland did enjoy some autonomy for a while. But with time, Russia began to interfere more and more in the Kingdom’s affairs.
