Hello, i wanted to know how risky is it to go to big almaty lake & shymbaluk. Risky i meant by altitude. Are there facilities up there if one gets altitude sickness? Is there any day tours available which take even oxygen mask for precaution? I want to see big almat lake without climbing. I will go by car see it from the point take pic & go to shymbaluk next and come back.

Its not risky at all. If you go by car may be u will feel some risks on the road bcz its mountain areas. But not so much risky if you go for a walk there after reaching the place
Yeah, I think so. I have visited there in mid-April and it was beautiful - still some snow around, but plenty of warm days and mild weather. Hope this helps

You can go on the grass area just over the road but if you go down to the lake edge the police will nab you and you will be threatened with 15 days in jail for "breaking the laws of Kazakhstan". The police will say there are signs warning this but of course there are none.

It also depends what type of guide you require, specialist wildlife guides tend to be the more expensive. I think people tend to think of Kazahkstan is not as cheap as many people think. It is quite a prosperous country particularly in the cities. Sorry I can't be of more help.
